Onions

Introduction

Pakistan has blessed with amazing agricultural resources thanks to its fertile land, well-irrigated plains, weather, and farming tradition. Pakistan annually produces about 1.5 million tons of onions, with an increasing trend during the past 6 years. To provide the product at the widest range of seasons, we select quality onions grown in the Sindh, Balochistan, and Punjab regions for export around the world.

Onions are incorporated in our diets very intensively and are benefitting us in innumerable ways. The antioxidants, minerals and vitamin-rich vegetables help combat heart disease, weight gain, and cancer. Like many other fresh vegetables, Pakistani Onions are also exported and acclaimed all over the world.

Onion season

Onion is grown throughout Pakistan in varying volumes and with different harvesting periods. Onion bulbs should be harvested after 75% of the crop have shown neckfall. Onion bulbs may be left on the surface of the ground for field curing until tops one fully dry. Three to four days field curing is desirable to improve the storage life of onion. One to two centimeters of the top is usually left on the bulbs to prevent entrance of disease organisms.
